Special Benefit Concert with Stormin’ Norman Seldin’s “The Five.”
On June 6, 2024, supporters of the Asbury Park Museum witnessed an amazing concert benefit concert in the Johnny & June Room of the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel, 1401 Ocean Avenue, Asbury Park, NJ. The event featured Stormin’ Norman Seldin’s band, THE FIVE 11-piece band including Norman Seldin, Ryan Gregg, Chuck Lambert, Christopher Plunkett and Robert Boyd – together on stage to support the Asbury Park Museum.
Opening Reception of “One Voice Is Not Enough” exhibit is another huge success!
The Asbury Park Museum’s opening reception for our second pop-up exhibit at the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel was another huge success with more than 100 people attending. As this was a music exhibit, there were quite a few singers and musicians dropping by to partake in the opening ceremonies and refreshments. Opening Reception for our “Trailblazing Women” exhibit at the Asbury Park Library
On December 1, 2022, the public joined us for the opening reception of the Asbury Park Museum’s pop-up exhibit, “Trailblazing Women of Asbury Park 1870s-1970s” at the Asbury Park Library, 500 1st Ave, Asbury Park, NJ. It was free to attend and light refreshments were served. The exhibit was on view at the Asbury Park Library through March 2023. The display highlighted over 24 Asbury Park women who were selected as Trailblazers in their diverse areas of accomplishment. Viewers got a glimpse into the inspirational lives and careers that contributed to Asbury Park’s development as a thriving community, center of family life, successful business enterprise, and mecca for the cultural arts. Areas covered included Social Justice, Heritage Preservation, Business, Performing Arts and Entertainment, Law, Medicine, Literary and Publishing. Grand Opening of “Asbury Park: 150 Years of Change and Transformation – Segregated Seashore” exhibit a huge success!
The Asbury Park Museum’s Grand Opening Celebration of our first pop-up exhibit at the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel on July 1, 2021, was a huge success. More than 175 people attended the four-hour event which featured access to our exhibit, refreshments and an opportunity to sign up for Asbury Park Museum Charter Membership. Books on Asbury Park history by local authors were offered for sale.
The Asbury Park: A Segregated Seashore Retrospective
With the spotlight once again shining on Asbury Park as it marked the 150th anniversary, the Asbury Park Museum unveiled a popup exhibit [running through November 29, 2021] at the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel, On November 14, the exhibit came to life by way of a mixed-medium presentation, held in the hotel’s Johnny & June Room.
Plaque Dedication of Where “Honeysuckle Rose” was Written
On July 9, 2020, The Asbury Park Museum and Asbury Park Historical Society in cooperation with Springwood Avenue Rising and the Bethel AME Church dedicated a plaque at the Asbury Park house where Fats Waller & Andy Razaf wrote the song “Honeysuckle Rose” in December, 1928. “Honeysuckle Rose,” the song that launched the careers of songwriting legends Waller & Razaf would go on to be recorded by more than 500 artists from Count Basie to Lena Horne and Nat King Cole…
